2026 Gordan Lecture Speaker: Ailie Wood
The Catherine M.S. Gordan Nightingale Mind Lecture celebrates the vibrant intellectual life of our community. Established in 2013 to honor former Associate Head of School Kitty Gordan’s 42 years of extraordinary service, the annual series highlights the scholarly passions of our faculty—both inside and beyond the classroom.
This year’s Gordan Lecture was delivered by Ailie Wood, a member of our Upper School math faculty, in Upper School assembly today. Her presentation, “The Everyday Role of Mathematics,” explored how logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and clear thinking shape the world far beyond numbers. From navigating misinformation to breaking down complex challenges, her talk invited us to see math not just as computation—but as a powerful tool for understanding and engaging with everyday life.
