Syllables Made Simple

Class III students are strengthening their reading and spelling skills by learning to break multisyllabic words into smaller, more manageable parts. Recently, students reviewed closed syllables, which contain a short vowel followed by a consonant, as they practiced dividing and decoding words such as bad•min•ton and ex•cel•lent!. By recognizing syllable patterns, students are building strategies to read and spell more complex words with confidence.
