Spooky Sequencing: Kindergarteners Code Bee-Bots for Halloween
In the days leading up to Halloween, Kindergarten programmers put their coding skills to the test with Bee-Bots—colorful, child-friendly robots designed for young learners. Throughout their unit in Computer Science class, students explored foundational programming concepts, focusing on sequencing commands and setting conditional paths. To celebrate the season, Kindergarteners first designed custom Halloween features to decorate their Bee-Bots. Once their robots were dressed for the occasion, students took turns using directional buttons to program precise sequences—guiding their Bee-Bots across themed maps while carefully steering clear of "zombies."
By practicing direction words like forward, backward, left, and right, students learned to enter commands in sequence for the robot to execute. More than just an introduction to robotics, the hands-on activity helped our youngest learners build a growth mindset by testing code, learning from errors, and persevering through challenges.
