Literary Analysis in Class VIII
In Class VIII English, students recently finished reading Trevor Noah’s memoir Born a Crime, which explores his experience growing up in South Africa during the final years of apartheid. In a class discussion, students took a deeper look at the memoir through close analysis of quotations about Noah’s use of language. They considered how learning to speak different languages allowed Noah to connect across racial and cultural identities, while examining the ways language can shape belonging, identity, and relationships.
