Mathletes on the Move

The Middle School math team has been hard at work this spring, representing Nightingale in two highly regarded competitions and demonstrating both skill and enthusiasm along the way.

In March, a team of six students traveled to compete in the Manhattan Chapter of the MathCounts competition, one of the most popular and prestigious math competitions for middle school students nationwide. Representing Nightingale were Sarah D. ’30 (captain), Ivana C. ’30, Isa M. ’30, Audrey M. ’30, Lara D. ’30, and Yoon P. ’30. While official standings are only released for the top five schools among the 42 participating teams, Nightingale’s students delivered a strong performance and embraced the challenge with focus, determination, and team spirit.

The team’s momentum continued with broad participation in the American Mathematics Competitions 8 (AMC 8), where 22 Nightingale students tested their problem-solving skills against peers across the country. Several students achieved outstanding results.

A three-way tie for the highest score at Nightingale went to Bella M. ’31, Audrey M. ’30, and Isa M. ’30, each earning a score of 20—just one point shy of qualifying for the Honor Roll, which recognizes the top 5% of scorers nationally.

Students recognized among the top 10% nationally included Bella M. ’31, Audrey M. ’30, and Isa M. ’30. Earning placement in the top 25% nationally were Gabrielle B. ’30, Ivana C. ’30, Adelaide C. ’30, and Sarah D. ’30.

Additional Nightingale participants in the AMC 8 included Emily B. ’31, Liza B. ’30, Noa C. ’30, Lara D. ’30, Isa G. ’31, Spriha G. ’31, Amanda I. ’30, Caroline J. ’31, Poppy K. ’30, Nailah M. ’31, Amira M. ’31, Yoon P. ’30, Minie P. ’30, Cornelia X. ’32, and Audrey Z. ’33.

Nighthawk mathematicians then competed in the Girls Adventures in Math (GAIM) competition, which brought Lower and Middle School students an opportunity to collaborate, compete, and celebrate a shared love of mathematics.
